I sectioned off a whiteboard using a little colored masking tape. I put the goal at the top, then the fist to four symbols down the side. Each kiddo has chip with a number on it. Before I even teach the first lesson pertaining to the goal we evaluate where we are. As we learn more about our goals the kiddos have the option to move their chips up and down on the board at the end of a lesson.
Of course, by the end of the unit we hope that everyone in the class is at a 3 or a 4.
We use the fist to four for all of our self-evaluations, so the kiddos are used to using it, it is part of our classroom language and conversations.
