Today, I had the pleasure of reviewing two sets of Hot Dots from Educational Insights: Patterns and Sequencing and Shapes. These sets are actually geared for ages 3-6, but they also have a ton of additional titles for older students as well, so I encourage you to stop by EI’s website to check them out!
In addition to the Hot Dots Jr. sets I was able to review, I also received their super cute “Kat”— the Talking, Teaching Kitty™ electronic talking sensor pen, which works with the cards to let the students know whether the answers they chose on either side of the 2-sided cards are correct or not. I actually already had the Hot Dots® Jr. “Ace” – the Talking, Teaching Dog, which also works – check out the pictures below – the kids love them!
These cards are perfect for early finishers or as a center activity! Skills like patterns and sequencing, are always a good practice. And these resources are non-threatening and fun! The cards are made of thicker paper and have a light lamination coat on the top, so they will hold up to all the little fingers touching all day long.
One thing I really liked about the sets is that there are various worded questions throughout the deck, even though it is practicing the same skills. For patterning, you might find “Which completes the pattern?” and “Which completes the sequence?” I think it is important for students to get practice knowing that the same thing is asked, but just in different words.
The electronic talking pens also have several responses for correct and incorrect answers, which keeps it novel as well. 🙂
Fantastic for a review day, or a small group activity during your reading block, the Educational Insights Hot Dots are awesome for reviewing and practicing core skills – whichever you choose! Of course, EI is awesome, and they have also offered to giveaway any two card sets and one pen as well to one lucky reader here at The Organized Classroom Blog! Yay!
Good luck from Educational Insights and The Organized Classroom Blog!
